Jerome Wright
|
Originally
from Virginia, and raised in Washington DC, Wright has led a remarkable
life first as a Classical cellist playing with orchestras in Brazil and
all over the world, and now after his retirement from the US Army he
has dedicated himself to painting.
He works in
oil pastel, generally on panel or canvas, creating glazes of
varnish over each new layer of pastel work, a process which builds up
surfaces of great richness. The images are drawn from Wright's colorful
life as classical musician and music lover and from his
interest in things spiritual, where pictures from the Black
Church mix with the iconography of Wright's Catholic upbringing.
The paintings in this portfolio represent the artist's March 2008
exhibition at the Arts Council Galleries and the HACC Lebanon Campus
Gallery.
A signed book and photographic reproductions suitable for framing are
available by contacting the Arts Council. Unsigned copies of the book
